Maintenance Tips

Dust levels can be very high in the area due to the lack of rain. Because of this, it is important to check your air filters at least once a month to keep out the dust and debris that will worsen the air quality and may cause illness and allergies. In addition, changing air filters regularly will help keep down your energy bill and avoid breakdown of the air unit.
Although TOKA may visit your home at least once a year to check the air conditioning, you should also check the system yourself for possible filter degradation. It’s important that tenants take personal responsibility for checking air filters.

Here are some quick tips for changing an air filter:

  • Find Your Filter – If you don’t know where your filters are, call your Residential Counselor if you occupy a home constructed by TOKA that has not been conveyed. Also look near the return grills by the thermostat.
  • Remove the Filters – Pull the old filter out to check it. You should be able to see through a filter. If this isn’t the case, it’s time for a cleaning/replacement.
  • Clean the Area – Clear the grill of any dust that might make the filter worse after replacement.

Proper filter maintenance only takes five minutes and it will save you money! If you need a complete tune-up for your unit and reside in a rental unit, call your Residential Counselor at (520) 383-2202. If you are a homeowner and occupy a home constructed by TOKA that has not been conveyed, you may call the TERO Office at (520) 383-3304 for a qualified contractor for this service or call your Residential Counselor to inquire about your MEPA.
